Jurassic Traffic, Jazz Bros & the Sketchy Stair Climb - Tour Day 4
Day 4 kicked off with a five-hour trek to the Logger Bar in Blue Lake, CA — a route full of winding mountain roads and no fewer than four stretches of one-lane traffic control. Each came with its own sun-soaked waiting period. Yuck.
Thankfully, I had homework to distract me: reading Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park for my upcoming Bushwick Book Club appearance on Oct. 18th. Nothing like dinosaurs and chaos theory to make stalled traffic feel a little more epic.
When we finally rolled into the small logging town, a jazz trio called Jazz Bros was mid-set. They didn’t have a PA for us, but Arthur Buezo managed to get in touch with two local legends — Lizard and Turtle (yes, really). Thanks to them, we ended up with a passive JBL system, and I once again found myself running sound through an unfamiliar setup. We made it work, though, and all walked away with the night’s guarantee — a relief, because the crowd wasn’t exactly picking up what I was putting down. Big thanks to @honkytonk_hillbilly for hooking us up with the gear!
As soon as the last note faded, I hit the road again — three more hours to a hotel in Ukiah. After more than eight hours in the car, I was just glad to collapse. That is, after hauling every piece of my equipment up a flight of stairs to avoid the local car thieves. Let’s just say the area had… a vibe.
