Tomo Nakayama — Seattle, WA

Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Tomo Nakayama has spent two decades proving that KEXP wasn't exaggerating when they called him "probably the artist who fits the title of Seattle music fixture better than anyone right now." A crystalline high-tenor voice, intricate fingerpicking, and a willingness to reinvent — from chamber pop with Grand Hallway to intimate indie folk, a #1 KEXP synthpop detour with Melonday, and back to a lush organic full-band sound on his 2025 album Ocean — have earned him praise from NPR, the New York Times, and The Stranger, plus placements in Netflix's House of Ninjas and a Sundance Grand Jury nominated film.
